Elder's Corner - Going Deeper With God - By Noel Montgomery

When I fill my mind with the loving presence of God, I find peace. Whatever blizzard swirls around me, I seek the Spirit of God by prayer and meditation that calms the storms within. Blessed are they who keep His testimonies, and who seek, inquire for and of Him and crave Him with the whole heart. (Psalm 119:2).

I found this month I wanted to challenge myself to go deeper with God. There are times I crave his presence more than others and for me that means I need to be seeking Him deeper. I enjoy finding ways to do this because God is so big that we will never know all of who God is, but He loves it when we try. I decided to pick patience as an area I wanted work on. I found I have patience in a lot of things but still need to work on patience in all areas of my life. In the second week in the month, God put on my heart to also include humility as another area that I could study and build up. He needs me to have more of humility in my life to serve others.

I would like to invite the church to do the same. Do a 30/30 day experience, meaning read the word for 30 minutes a day for 30 days and see how going deeper in the word works for you. You can start at any given time, but I have found for me starting on the first of a month is much easier to keep track of where I am. Some of us may already be doing this in some way, form or fashion and spending more time—that’s awe- some—but there are still some who could use this reminder to “Go Deeper with God.”

If your Bible has a concordance in the back of the book where there are different areas you would like to study, you’ll find scriptures of reference you could read that address that area. For me I found 23 verses that referred to patience. I would read not just that scripture but the chapter that pertained to patience. I meditated on that verse and asked God for His guidance and understanding. God may have you working on several areas of your life so there is no limit in the word of God. Take all the time you need, this is only a suggestion. If you are more of a computer person, there are bibles online you can refer to for your study time. (Bible Gateway: www.biblegateway.com.)

We must keep God first in our life in everything we do or we will find ourselves out of sync with life, in the spirit and anything else in life we have or need to accomplish. Lord I declare Your works are mighty and marvelous, and Your ways are righteous and true. (Rev. 15:3) May you all be blessed through the Word of God.
