A beginning and an ending—it is the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year and time to go back to work for those of us who work in schools. For me there is the sadness of the end of something wonderful balanced by the excitement of beginning of a new year. What a great time for a ground-breaking of a new church building! I can’t help but compare my feelings at this time of year with our church situation. An ending of our journey towards a new building and the sadness of leaving Joan behind, with the excitement of something new and different about to unfold. No doubt many of you feel the same way as I do.
The coming months will be a stressful time for us all and it will be important to stay connected with each other and to acknowledge our feelings and concerns together as a group as we move forward. The elders have identified this as an important role and task for us and want to make sure that we are in touch with each and every one of you. Thus we have been surveying the congregation to find out what your thoughts and feelings are at this time, and how you feel about the giant leap we are about to take, as well as your hopes and vision for the future of our church. Although we are each unique in our individual thoughts and feelings, we each have much in common as well. Please feel free to approach any of the elders as your feelings unfold or as you have thoughts and ideas of vision for our church community. If we continue to listen to each other and are open to God's voice in our community, I feel confident that we can grow and meet any of the challenges set before us. Let the work begin!
