Moderator's Musings by Jo Gustafson

“We fly through the air....” Indeed, your 2015 “love” board has leapt into the year with a new sense of spirit. We are going to try something different. We are going to meet quarterly, well, probably quinterly given the schedule and need. In between times, we’ll be on various teams working together with members of the congregation. Yes, this means you! Now construction has begun, and the loan from Church Extension is approved, it’s time to push up our sleeves and take action.

Building our church is like raising a child; it takes a village. There will still be lots of things that only the board can do. With many things to be accomplished before we move into our new church, though, we simply can’t do it all by ourselves. So, we’ve identified some areas where you can help and are creating teams around those areas. Are these committees? No. I think of teams as a group of people working together on a common mission. So instead of occupying a seat on a committee whose job it is to figure out how to get from point A to point B, a team is a group who share a mutual passion or skill set and work together to get something done. We board members truly believe this will bring us closer together as a community, give us all a sense of ownership in our beautiful new home, and keep your hard-working leaders from totally burning out!

Here are some of the teams where we could use your help:

  • Property management/custodian
    • Find a property management company and custodian, interview them, make a recommendation to the board
  • Grants/Fundraising
    • Bridgett’s already started us off by obtaining four refurbished laptops and four printers for free from the Gates Foundation, saving us tons of money!
  • Love team
    • Baking goodies and hot coffee for our construction guys
  • Open house
    • What will we do the first day we move in?
  • New members
    • Orientation and welcoming (with our elders)
  • Outreach
    • Schmoozing with our neighbors on the hill
  • Webpage/Media
    • Help bring us into this century

So, my friends pray on it and if something calls to you contact me or any of the board members. We’ll get you signed up on a team. (Sorry, you’ll have to get your own uniforms.) Go WTCC!!!!
